More legal action flagged by Vic doctors

Junior doctors at Sunshine and Footscray hospitals are the latest to signal a class action. (AAP)

Another Victorian health service is set to be hit with a class action over "dangerously long" hours that junior doctors say compromise patient health.

The claim is expected to be lodged within weeks against Western Health on behalf of junior doctors at Sunshine and Footscray hospitals between 2015 and 2021.

It follows two similar class actions filed in the Federal Court against Peninsula Health, and Monash Health and the Latrobe Regional Health Service, earlier this year.

One of the doctors involved, Karla Villafana-Soto, said she and others wanted acknowledgement and correct pay for hours worked.

"For many of us, our hours are often dangerously long. That presents an unacceptable risk to our patients' health and our own safety," she said on Wednesday.

The case against the Peninsula, Monash and Latrobe health services is due in court for a case management hearing on Thursday.

The claims are seeking to recover excessive hours, and unpaid and un-rostered overtime, lawyer Hayden Stephens said.

His firm was also involved in a similar action in NSW.

"This is a systemic and widespread problem that health authorities must confront," the lawyer said.
