More graduate jobs on offer, study suggests

Firms are offering more jobs for graduates, especially in areas such as the environment, energy and health, a new study has suggested.

Vacancies for graduates will be 20% higher this year than in 2021, according to the Institute of Student Employers (ISE).

Charities and the public sector predicted fewer graduate jobs in 2022, but they would still be above pre-pandemic levels, said the report.

Almost one in five of 177 employers surveyed said the quality of graduate applicants had dropped.

Stephen Isherwood, chief executive of ISE, said: “The number of graduate jobs has slowly increased but this is the first time we’ve seen hiring back to pre-pandemic levels.

“It demonstrates business confidence and how much employers continue to value a degree.

“However, with a significant number of employers noting a drop in the quality of applicants, students should be aware of resting on their laurels.”
