More frustration for commuters as Toxteth roadworks extended

Commuters face up to another week of disruption after utilities works in Toxteth were extended.

Princes Road has been closed by the junction of High Park Street since January 27 and had been expected to come to an end today. The work by United Utilities had led to a number of diversions for motorists and public transport and it has now been confirmed they will continue up to Wednesday February 8.

According to information available online, utility repair and maintenance works are ongoing in the area with an extension being confirmed on February 1. Merseytravel advised travellers of the change via its website this afternoon.

As a result, a number of bus diversions are in place as follows. Route 26 will operate as normal from Liverpool ONE Bus Station to Croxteth Road then via Devonshire Road, Devonshire Road West, Admiral Street, Windsor Street to Upper Warwick Street and resume normal route to Liverpool ONE Bus Station omitting Princes Road.

Route 75 will operate as normal from Halewood to Croxteth Road then via Lodge Lane, Upper Parliament Street to Catharine Street and resume normal route to Liverpool ONE Bus Station, omitting a section of Croxteth Road and Princes Road. Routes 80 and 80A will operate as normal from Speke and John Lennon Airport to Croxteth Road then via Lodge Lane, Upper Parliament Street to Catharine Street and resume normal route to Liverpool ONE Bus Station, omitting a section of Croxteth Road and Princes Road.

Arriva North West also informed users of the changes on Twitter. A road closure remains in place on the junction of Princes Road and High Park Street.

Last month further roadworks took place at the junction of Lodge Lane and Upper Parliament Street just off Princes Road which added to the disruption faced by residents and motorists. A United Utilities spokesperson said: “We needed an emergency road closure to repair a leak and this has now been fixed.

"However the reinstatement work is quite substantial and it will take some time for the concrete to set. We expect to be finished early next week, certainly before Wednesday.”
