More drivers hit with parking fines as popular beauty spot closes packed car park

More drivers have been slapped with parking fines after flocking to a popular Oldham beauty spot - forcing officials to close the car park.

Scores of cars headed to Dovestone Reservoir, parking up for people to make the most of the dry weather.

Marshalls from Protec Security, the firm responsible for policing parking at the Bank Lane site, closed the road to the car park earlier today, March 6.

A spokeman from the firm said: “Dovestone car park is currently full and closed to further vehicles.

“This ensures that all visitors remain safe & emergency assistance can access the site quickly, should an emergency occur.”

The firm asked people to be courteous to local residents if they decided to park on the road, avoiding private driveways, and leaving enough room on pavements for prams and wheelchairs.

This isn’t the first time a number of visitors have descended on the reservoir, with fines handed out to cars parked along the road just last weekend.

Under the current coronavirus restrictions, people are only allowed to leave their homes for a small number of reasons.

Exercise is permitted, with up to one other person from outside your household or bubble.

People have been urged to stay local for their exercise, which should be limited to once per day.
