More details on Nottinghamshire Tier 3 talks expected on Wednesday, says Broxtowe council leader

The leader of Broxtowe Borough Council said local authorities will find out more on Wednesday (October 21) about whether further restrictions are being placed on Nottinghamshire.

Councillor Milan Radulovic said he believes it is likely there will be particular areas that will face Tier 3 lockdowns rather than the whole of Nottinghamshire.

Health secretary Matt Hancock said in his statement to the Commons on Monday, October 19, that further talks are planned with leaders in Nottinghamshire.

And Councillor David Mellen, the leader of Nottingham City Council, issued a statement confirming talks were due to take place.

He said these talks are to consider whether Nottingham should be placed under Tier 3 restrictions.

Nottingham city continues to have the highest rate of new cases in the country.

A total of 2,368 new cases were recorded in the seven days to October 15 – the equivalent of 711.3 cases per 100,000 people.

Gedling's rate currently stands at 369.8 per 100,000 people, while the rate of cases across Rushcliffe stands at 344.8 per 100,000 people.

In Broxtowe, the figures currently stands at 313.1.

Tier 3 has the most serious measures and is classified by the Government as 'very high' alert - including a closure of bars and pubs.  They can only remain open where they operate as if they were a restaurant, which means serving substantial meals.

People are also banned from socialising with anybody they do not live with or have formed a support bubble with, in any indoor setting or in any private garden.

Councillor Radulovic told Nottinghamshire Live: "I think part of us will go into Tier 3 like Nottingham city, part of Broxtowe and part of Gedling - that is probably what will happen.

"We should zone - postcodes such as Beeston North could be Tier 3.

"It is simpler so people know where they stand -Wednesday they are going to let us know.

"But my plea is to stop playing politics with people's lives. It is not a popularity contest. It is about saving lives, protecting the NHS, and shops and businesses."
