More details come out on Nick Foles’ contract structure and Jags’ available cap space

The Jacksonville Jaguars introduced their new No. 1 quarterback, Nick Foles, to the media Thursday and it appears the veteran quarterback couldn’t be happier. After meeting the media, the Jags’ from office continued to talk to the media about their new investment and more details were revealed on both Foles’ contract and the Jags’ available cap space.

In starting with Foles’ cap hit, $12 million on the season is a win for the Jags who need as much cap space as possible to add weapons around him. Unfortunately, we’re at the point where the open market looks a bit lackluster, however, it’s possible the team can find a gem or two in the current group.

As for the $12 million in cap space Caldwell mention, it sounds about right when doing the math. Coming into the tampering period, they had over $30.6 million available, according to the NFLPA, and gained $4.5 million with the release of quarterback Blake Bortles, bringing them to $34.6 million. When subtracting Foles’ cap hit of $12 million, taking out the rookie pool amount (approximately $9-$10 million), then A.J. Cann’s unknown cap hit, it all should roughly come to the $12 million Caldwell spoke about Thursday afternoon.
