More cringing as Esther McVey tries to crack jokes in wedding plans video

Tory MP Esther McVey has posted another cringeworthy video on social media - this time discussing her wedding plans.

The Liverpool-born MP, who is widely disliked in her home city for her record relating to treatment of vulnerable and struggling people, has been taking to twitter lately with a number of videos.

Last week she left thousands cringing with a 'staycation' video that saw her mocked for pretending to drive a car along the road in a clip several people compared to a terrible children's TV programme.

In her latest video, titled 'A very Covid Wedding' - the Tatton MP talks about her own wedding plans that have been derailed by the virus crisis.

The former GMTV presenter, who championed controversial policies like the Bedroom Tax and Universal Credit and defended the rising use of foodbanks, is set to marry fellow Conservative MP Philip Davies.

Her edited video, including opening titles to the sound of the wedding march, sees the West Derby-born politician cracking jokes about her amended nuptials.

She said: "You wait 52 years to get married and along comes coronavirus and knocks you off course.

"I say to Philip maybe the big guy in the sky is trying to tell us something.

"I also say, maybe its my lucky escape but I'm afraid Philip doesn't always appreciate my dark humour.

She added: "You do need to find some sort of humour in what is going on, because if you didn't laugh sometimes you certainly would cry."

She explained that she will now be going ahead with a smaller wedding involving just close family.

Similar to the staycation video, many on Twitter were confused and unimpressed with the latest effort.

Anne Bell simply asked: "What fresh hell is this?"

Peggy Woolley joked "is Lorraine Kelly invited" in reference to the famous on air clash between the two former presenting colleagues last year.

Karl Rennar suggested the government was trying to 'corner the market' in satirising itself ahead of the planned return of the Spitting Image TV show.
