More Covid-19 drama ahead of Linfield Champions League qualifier

Legia Warsaw have seen one of their players hit by a positive Covid-19 test on the eve of their Champions League qualifier against Linfield.

The Polish champions confirmed this evening that one of their players is in quarantine after testing positive for coronavirus.

The club stated that all of their other players are fit and healthy to start tomorrow's game in Warsaw.

Today’s development is the latest Covid-19 drama to befall David Healy and his players - who travelled to Poland this morning.

Linfield received a bye to face Legia after KF Drita, their opponents in the previous round, forfeited the tie after two of their players tested positive for Covid-19.

Tonight's Legia Warsaw statement read: “On Sunday, the team and staff of Legia Warsaw were tested for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 virus (Covid-19).

“One of the contestants tested positive. The club immediately implemented all the necessary procedures and informed the relevant sanitary authorities about this case, which are taking appropriate actions.

“The player remained at home and is in quarantine, and the club has ordered further tests to be carried out to verify the test result.

“All other players and staff members are healthy and can start tomorrow's game according to UEFA regulations.”
