More counties likely to see Level 3 restrictions, but it's 'not inevitable', Dr Ronan Glynn says

It is likely that other counties will be moved to Level 3 restrictions, but it's not inevitable, the Acting Chief Medical Officer has said.

In a video message on Friday night, Dr Ronan Glynn appealed for the public to "take personal responsibility" and urged people to keep limiting their social contacts.

In particular, he signalled out those living in Dublin and Donegal, who are already under a Level 3 lockdown.

He also indicated that Louth, Kildare, Wicklow, Cork and Galway are areas which could see more measures introduced.

And he urged people in these counties to follow Limerick and Tipperary's example, two areas were cases have significantly reduced recently.

In a clip shared to Twitter, Dr Glynn said: "I am asking people everywhere, particularly in Donegal and Dublin, and more broadly in Louth, Kildare, Wicklow, Cork and Galway to pay special attention to the public health advice.

"I ask every individual to take personal responsibility to prioritise who you need to see. Limit the seize of your social network and reduce your social contacts over the coming days and weeks.

"While there is every chance that other areas of the country will have to move to Level 3, there is nothing inevitable about that.

"We have seen previously in Limerick and Tipperary and possibly over the last few days in Waterford, how people working together can take control and turn the tide on this virus.

"But even in these counties, people need to keep going. Keep making the right choices and deny Covid the opportunity to transmit."
