More coronavirus patients die in Nottingham's hospitals, NHS confirms

Two more coronavirus patients being treated in Nottingham's hospitals have died, the NHS trust has confirmed.

Dr Keith Girling, medical director at Nottingham University Hospitals, which runs Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital, says the patients were aged 86 and 97. They died on May 9.

He said: “Sadly we can confirm that a further two patients have died having tested positive for Covid-19.

"Regrettably that means that 240 Covid-19 positive patients we were caring for have sadly died since the beginning of March.

“The families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time."

The hospital trust says any delays in deaths being reported can occur for a number of reasons, for example if an individual is tested post-mortem or if there have been difficulties in tracing and informing family members.

As of May 10, Public Health England has reported 570 cases of the virus in Nottingham and 1,221 in Nottinghamshire.
