More coronavirus patients die in Nottingham's hospitals, NHS confirms

A further six coronavirus patients in Nottingham's hospitals died at the end of April, it has been confirmed.

The death toll for both the Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital now stands at 208 people since the beginning of March.

Dr Keith Girling, Medical Director at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "Sadly we can confirm that a further six patients have died having tested positive for COVID-19.

"Regrettably that means that 208 COVID-19 positive patients we were caring for have sadly died since the beginning of March.

"The patients were aged between 60 and 89, and died on the 29 and 30 of April.

"The families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time."

As of 6pm on April 30, Public Health England said there were 518 confirmed cases of the covid-19 virus in Nottingham, with a further 1,019 in Nottinghamshire.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson just yesterday announced the UK had gone past the peak of the virus, with the reproduction rate currently somewhere between 0.6 and 0.9.

The virus begins to spread more rapidly when the reproduction rate passes 1.0, and Boris Johnson urged people to remain indoors until further notice to avoid a second peak.

It is thought the Government will be announcing its exit plans next week.
