More coronavirus deaths reported in Nottingham hospitals

Four more patients have died in Nottingham's hospitals after testing positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust confirmed the fatalities on Thursday, April 9.

Two of the patients, aged 53 and 82, both died on April 7.

The total number of deaths across both the Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital has now risen to 72 since the start of March.

Dr Keith Girling, Medical Director at Nottingham University Hospitals, added: “Sadly we can confirm that a further four patients have died having tested positive for COVID-19. Regrettably that means that 72 COVID-19 positive patients we were caring for have sadly died since the beginning of March.”

“The patients were aged 53 and 82, and died on the 7 April.”

“The families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”

More than 500 people have now tested positive for coronavirus across Nottinghamshire.

Figures released up to 5pm on Wednesday, April 8, showed that 509 people have now tested positive for Covid-19 across the county.

There has also been a sharp rise in the city, with 232 positive cases confirmed in Nottingham. This is an increase of 28 from Tuesday's figure of 204.
