More coronavirus cases confirmed in Bristol

Seven more people in Bristol have tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number to 679.

The city went 24 hours without any new cases at the start of the week, but the latest figures released today (Wednesday) recorded another increase.

Statistics account for the period between 9am on Tuesday and 9am this morning, and show increases in neighbouring authorities too.

Bath and North East Somerset recorded 225 cases, up from 224, while cases in South Gloucestershire rose from 388 to 392.

Confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Somerset now total 323, up from 312 the previous day.

Separate data published today shows that neither of Bristol's hospital trusts recorded any coronavirus-related deaths yesterday (Tuesday), for the second day in a row.

Nationally, there have been a further 494 coronavirus deaths and 3,242 positive tests.

The total number of diagnosed cases in the UK now stands at 229,705, and 33,186 people diagnosed with the virus have now died.

Regionally, the South West remains the area with the least confirmed cases, with 7,155 tests coming back positive.

London alone has recorded 26,024 cases and the North West has the second-highest regional figure, at 22,853.
