More commuter chaos on the way: Leith Street is set to close to traffic again for three weeks

Like everyone in Edinburgh, Edinburgh Live were thrilled when Leith Street reopened in July 2018, as the diversion via Regent Road sent cars quite far out of the way.

However, we've heard that the crucial road is set to close for a second time, this time for three weeks, as part of the one billion pound St James Quarter redevelopment.

The plan is to to close the road from 19:00 on 5 May until 07:00 on 25 May in connection with the £1bn St James Quarter project.

The closure will be from Waterloo Place to Greenside Row. Greenside Row will remain open and Calton Road will close.

Pedestrians are being advised to use the covered walkway, and cyclists will have to dismount if they want to go in that direction.

Hopefully that will be the final time Leith Street has to close. We've reached out to Edinburgh City Council for comment.
