More charges for accused NSW gun importer

A joint investigation led a 36-year-old man's Bathurst home being raided in September. (AAP)

A NSW man has been slapped with 26 more charges after police found handguns, a bulletproof vest and an electronic control device at his home.

An investigation was triggered after Australian Border Force officers discovered a BB gun and pellets in a package from Japan in June.

Over the next three months, ABF officers detected nine more suspicious packages coming through international mail or air cargo from Japan, Germany, China and Hong Kong.

The United States' Homeland Security Investigations became involved after packages destined for Australia were seized in the US.

The international investigation - involving NSW Police, Homeland Security Investigations and the ABF - started in August.

It included inquiries into the importation of items associated with the manufacture of illicit drugs which led to the 36-year-old man's Bathurst home being raided in September.

Police say they found a loaded .45 calibre handgun, three Glock handguns, a .357 Magnum handgun, firearm parts, gamma butyrolactone liquid (GBL), a ballistic vest, an electronic control device, and blank cards and holograms which can be used to create driver licences.

The man was charged with firearm offences and a further 26 charges were laid on Tuesday, including 15 charges of acquiring a firearm part without authority, intentionally importing illegal goods and having goods suspected of being stolen.

The man, who has been refused bail, will appear at Bathurst Local Court on January 25.
