'More buckets than people'...woman's hilarious pictures show leak-ridden shopping centre with no customers

Locals have joked a shopping centre has "more buckets than people" after hilarious pictures emerged.

Residents in Walkden say they haven't visited the Ellesmere Shopping Centre - which replaced the town's market hall - in years.

Now the retail centre appears to have been hit by a leak, after dozens of buckets were seen dotted around the floor.

The buckets have been scattered across the shopping venue, with yellow caution signs next to them.

Not one person can be seen inside the centre, which looks like a ghost-town and would be empty if not for the buckets.

The shopping centre, which has a range of outlets such as Aldi, Card Factory, JD, Savers and Tesco was built several years ago.

Developers Derwent Holdings were granted planning permission to take over the former market hall and Pembroke Hall after it was sold and demolished.

The decision to sell the original market hall was blasted by locals and councillors who said the heart of Walkden town centre had been 'ripped out.'

Pictures of the leak-ridden shopping centre were posted on a local Facebook group with the caption 'Walkden Centre this morning, what a joke.'

The post has attracted scores of comments from residents who said they were 'sad' to see what's left of all the old market hall.

"Not been in there for a few years and from the looks of it neither has anyone else," one person said.

"The buckets look like there [sic] having a good time."

One woman said: "I miss the old style with the market hall I never go to Walkden at all now."

Another joked: "Does anybody know how much it is to rent a shop in there? Asking for my 'friend' Buy yer Buckets from Billy.."

Another said: "More buckets than people - so sad it was bustling when I was a kid."

"What a shame this used to be such a busy place," another woman wrote.

Derwent Holdings have been approached for comment.
