Moradabad’s district cane officer suspended for dereliction of duty

BIJNOR: Moradabad’s district cane officer (DCO), Ajay Singh, has been suspended and attached to Lucknow office for dereliction of duty while conducting an inquiry into an embezzlement case on Wednesday, officials said.

The accused clerk in the theft case, Ashish Saini, who was posted in Cane Development Council in Gajraula, was found to have allegedly embezzled Rs 4.75 crores from government funds last year. After an inquiry by the Bareilly deputy cane commissioner, the charges were proved to be correct and Saini was arrested and sent to jail in March this year. The then district cane officer of Amroha, Hemendra Pratap Singh, was also attached to the Lucknow office in the same case.

Thereafter, a committee headed by the DCO was constituted to inquire about the matter. However, during investigation DCO’s role was found to be “suspicious” and now he has been suspended and attached to Lucknow office, said UP cane commissioner Sanjay R Bhoosreddy.
