Moped driver crashed head-on into a van, got up and said sorry, then fled the scene in a car

A moped driver crashed head-on into a van in Swansea , before apologising and fleeing the scene in a car, it has been claimed.

Shannon Mccormick was travelling in her step dad John Bevan's van with her mum Audra Thomas towards the Gors area, where they were going to collect a fireplace, when she claims a moped entered the oncoming lane whilst overtaking, and ended up in front of their vehicle, resulting in a head-on crash.

"The moped wedged right under the van," she said.

"It went straight into the front of my step dad's work van and the moped slid under completely. It caused the oil filter to burst.

"He got up, and kept on saying 'sorry mate', 'sorry mate'.

"There was a cream-coloured car travelling behind, which he jumped into and it drove away from the scene.

"He left the moped there and even left the keys."

Ms Mccormick said she and her family called the police who were at the scene for two hours investigating.

She said the damage had cost her step dad £600 in repair bills.

The 24-year-old has since taken to social media to appeal for help from anyone who might have information on the moped rider.

She said: "My mother has been really shaken up by it and has not slept at all.

"It is more annoyance than anything. It has to come out of my step dad's money to have his van repaired now.

"I'd ask anyone to come forward with information if you know anything about what happened."

“Enquiries are ongoing to trace the male rider of the motorcycle.

"Any witnesses to the incident can contact police on 101, quoting occurrence 1900147075.”
