BATHINDA: Bathinda police has registered a case against gangster Saraj Sandhu alias Saraj Mintu over charges of updating pictures in social media and indulging in drugs and extortion calls through social media. Saraj Sandhu is lodged in Bathinda jail in singer Sidhu Moose Wala murder case. The gangster is also accused of being in touch with his accomplices through the prison inmate call system, which is meant to make calls to blood relations or lawyers.
The Bathinda jail authorities had made the complaint to district police to investigate as to who is operating Saraj Sandhu’s social media accounts as he has no access to mobile phone or any other gadgets through which social media accounts could be operated. The authorities made the complaint after photos were updated from his social media account, @sarajsandhu302, on June 19. It was alleged that through the social media account, extortion calls and deals in drugs were being made. The jail authorities suspected that all this was being done in the name of Saraj Sandhi from outside by someone through fake accounts or by some of his accomplices.
When contacted, Bathinda jail superintendent N D Negi told TOI, “After witnessing updating of photos on social media account of Saraj Sandhu, lodged in Bathinda jail in Sidhu Moose Wala case, a complaint was made to police to investigate who is operating his account. The deals in drugs and extortion were suspected through his social media account.” He said that under the inmate call system, prisoners could make contact with 10 blood relations or lawyers registered with jail.
The case has been registered under NDPS act, Prison Act, 120B (criminal conspiracy), 384 IPC (extortion) at Bathinda Cantt police station.
