Moorfield Industrial Park: Sale of four plots for £850,000 paves way for huge distribution warehouse in Kilmarnock

The £850,000 sale of the remaining industrial plots on a Kilmarnock estate has unlocked "undoubted potential".

Plans to build a huge distribution warehouse fit to house almost 500 vans and 200 cars on the Moorfield North Industrial Park were given the go ahead by East Ayrshire Council in April this year.

The giant build across 10.7 acres will swallow the four remaining plots at the site that already houses the likes of Cook School Scotland, Braehead Foods, Plumbase, and MKM Building Supplies.

Lands Improvement Holdings flogged the freehold sale of the plots to Dundee-based West Ranga Property Group for the six-figure sum.

The boss at the strategic land development company says that the site has been "developed" under the firm's ownership which dates back more than three decades.

James Stone, managing director at Lands Improvement, said: “By establishing Moorfield North as a master-planned, fully serviced industrial park, Lands Improvement has unlocked the undoubted potential of its strategic location and brought new employment to this part of Kilmarnock.

"This transaction with West Ranga Property Group will ensure the remainder of the site is developed out and put to productive economic use.“

Warehouse plans given the green light will see the centre operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The giant distribution warehouse will be situated next to MKM Building Supplies and a four-floor multi-storey for vans at the bottom of the estate's road. A staff car park will sit on vacant land behind Braehead Foods and The Cook School Scotland.

East Ayrshire Council leader Douglas Reid previously said after the application was rubber-stamped: “This is great news for Kilmarnock and Ayrshire, and would represent one of the single most significant investments in our area.

"The business will be located in Moorfield, an area which has seen significant investment by East Ayrshire Council with assistance from the Scottish Government, to encourage new and growing businesses.

"They will join a number of other companies who have been attracted to the area, and we will continue to encourage others, particularly through the Ayrshire Growth Deal.

“Up to 500 new jobs is incredibly good news for economy, and we need to make sure that we have local people with the skills to make the best of this investment for our local economy."
