Ethan Hawke will star opposite Oscar Isaac in Marvel’s Moon Knight, reports claim.

The Training Day star has closed a deal to make his superhero debut in the Disney+ series, sources have told The Hollywood Reporter.

Hawke will play Moon Knight’s lead villain opposite Star Wars actor Isaac as the titular superhero.

Ramy star May Calamawy has also reportedly been cast in an undisclosed role, with filming on the show aiming to begin in March in Budapest.

The Independent has approached Disney for comment.

Moon Knight has been described as Marvel’s version of Batman, in which the superhero is a crime-fighting mercenary with multiple alter egos, including millionaire playboy Steven Grant.

However, unlike his DC counterpart, Moon Knight has a supernatural element to him that is linked to the lunar cycle.

The series marks Isaac’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having appeared in 2016’s X Men: Apocalypse as villain Apocalypse.

It is one of 11 forthcoming Marvel shows in the works as part of Disney’s focus on original series for Disney+.

The first new series, WandaVision, dropped on Disney+ on Friday (15 January), where it has been gaining rave reviews from fans and critics alike. You can read The Independent’s four-star review of the “intriguing” first two episodes here.

Next up, we have The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which comes to Disney+ on 19 March and Loki, which will arrive in May.
