Moodiesburn youth group earn £3000 funding boost

Young people in Moodiesburn will be taking action to improve their neighbourhood and bring their community together after receiving a £3000 grant from the Young Placechangers ideas fund.

Northern Corridor Community Volunteers successfully applied for the funding boost and will now run a feedback session to find out residents' views on how it should be spent.

They are inviting local residents to a "coffee break" event at Moodiesburn church centre from 12 noon to 3pm this Saturday, March 14, to gather ideas on projects to benefit their environment.

Group members used previous funding to create an imaginative forest garden and run a series of family events including an Easter treasure hunt; and the new project will centre around the area's Pivot community centre.

Volunteer and funding officer Claire Williams said: “It's been such a positive experience for us and the youth groups involved to date, we can’t wait to see how the wider community reacts to the ideas so far and how they help to shape the next stages.

"If anyone in Moodiesburn aged 12 to 25 wants to join the project, we'd love to hear from them."

The Young Placechangers initiative helps young people improve areas of their local communities and is funded by the Scottish Government and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
