Montrose Street in Merchant City closed due to damaged chimney

A street in the centre of Glasgow will tonight be closed due to a damaged chimney on a building.

The council have confirmed Montrose Street will be closed between Cochrane Street and Ingram Street in the Merchant City from 5pm this evening.

It's estimated remedial work will take around four hours and the road will be reopened at 9pm.

Glasgow City Council's Traffic Control and Management team (TRAFFCOM) advised this afternoon: "Due to damaged chimney on a building, Montrose Street will be closed between Cochrane Street and Ingram Street from 17:00 until 21:00 tonight Friday 9th April 2021."

Diversions will be in place along Cochrane Street, South Frederick Street and Ingram Street.

Police Scotland were contacted by Glasgow Live for comment, but didn't provide any further detail.
