Montpelier resident slams 'ridiculous' fly-tipping happening 'almost every week'

A Montpelier resident has slammed the 'ridiculous' fly-tipping which is happening 'almost every week' on her road.

Tyler-Jack Price, 22, said people on Albany Road leave rubbish, including furniture and clothes, next to the industrial bins instead of using them.

She says this is endangering the safety of passers by, such as parents and children at a nearby school, who sometimes have to walk in the road to get around the waste.

Pictures taken by Ms Price yesterday morning (July 25) show piles of rubbish spilling out onto the pavement and road, with items such as mattresses, chairs and boxes being left behind.

Speaking to Bristol Live, Ms Price said: "This is not the first time this has happened, it’s almost every week for around a year and a half.

"People living on Albany Road are still continuing to fly tip around the industrial bins instead of using them, resulting in the pathway being blocked off as the rubbish has just been spread out over the path.

"People with pushchairs have to risk getting hit by a car just to go round it all, which is ridiculous.

"It is a health risk, especially while this Covid is about."

She added she often spots underwear and mattresses amongst the waste left behind.

Since the pictures were taken yesterday, the bins have been emptied but the rubbish on the pavement and road has not been cleared.

Some areas saw an increase in fly-tipping during the first few weeks of lockdown, prompting South Gloucestershire Council to urge residents to re-use items when possible.

Earlier this year, an investigation by the BBC Shared Data unit also found the number of major fly-tipping incidents in Bristol have trebled over the last two years.

Bristol City Council has recorded 854 major fly-tips since 2011 which has cost the authority £181,250 to clear over the last eight years.

The council has been contacted for comment by Bristol Live.
