Months of delays and cancellations on Swansea First Cymru buses 'likely'

Disruption on Swansea bus services is likely "over the next few months", operator First Cymru has confirmed.

Angry passengers have continued to complain this week of multiple services being cancelled.

This week some described the bus station as 'chaos' as people were said to have been left waiting for hours .

The delays meant people were late for work, school and resulted in some missing their hospital appointments.

Some passengers have called the bus service "appalling".

On November 13, one person claimed there were five calls over the tannoy while they were stood there, apologising for routes not running due to technical faults.

First Cymru has apologised and blamed a vehicle shortage.

Managing director Andrew Sherrington said nearly half of the Swansea vehicles out of service were made by "Wrightbus, the County Antrim-based bus manufacturer which went into administration in September".

First Cymru has admitted that the problem is something that can't be fixed overnight, and anyone planning on travelling by bus has been asked to be patient and allow plenty of time to make their journeys.

A spokesman for the bus company said: “A recovery plan is in place and our Swansea depot engineers are doing everything they can.

"We have stated that some disruption is likely over the next few months rather than days, as the problems are not something that are fixed overnight. We apologise to customers and ask them to bear with us during this challenging period.

“We are doing everything we can to minimise cancellations and already we can report that some positive progress has been made.”

“We are absorbing cancellations across our Swansea services to ensure that not one route is disproportionately affected”

“Most of our Swansea services are operating albeit with some delay. We are advising customers to allow extra time for their journeys and use our smartphone app, which shows when the next service is due to arrive.”

Despite the delays and cancellations, First Cymru's website states it is not liable for direct or indirect losses, damages, cost or inconvenience.

“To the extent possible, we will advise customers of any disruption to our services.

"However, in the event of cancellation, delay, diversion or termination of any of our services, or of our services being unavailable to you as a result of the vehicle being fully loaded, at capacity, or for any other reasons, we shall not be liable for direct or indirect losses, damages, cost or inconvenience that you suffer as a result, save to the extent that any losses are covered by fixed compensation schemes which are specified locally.”
