Montez Sweat signs rookie deal with Redskins

Montez Sweat is officially a member of the Washington Redskins.

Washington’s second first-round pick of this year’s draft put ink to paper on his contract Wednesday, meaning the Redskins have just one member of the draft class left unsigned.

The Redskins traded back up into the first round to grab Sweat, so it isn’t any surprise head coach Jay Gruden has been adamant the pass-rusher will see plenty of playing time as a rookie.

“I have no doubt that he’s going to play a lot,” Gruden said, according to Redskins.com. “The skill set that he has is quite evident. You see his length and then you watch him run after practice and he’s faster than anybody we have probably right now.”

Sweat hasn’t wasted any time impressing onlookers in camp just as he did at the combine. But Gruden and Co. clearly expect that to translate to the field when the games matter.

In the meantime, count one formality out of the way.
