Montez Sweat is following the Preston Smith path so far

Massive expectations chase Washington Redskins rookie Montez Sweat into his debut season.

Interestingly, he sure looks quite a bit like Preston Smith, a guy who left the Redskins this offseason to join the Green Bay Packers in free agency.

Sweat has actually linked up with Smith in the past and told Kyle Melnick of Redskins.com briefly about the encounter.

“I’ve got a great relationship with Preston Smith,” Sweat said. “He just told me to keep my head up, keep grinding and just keep on going.”

Sweat played at the same high school as Sweat, then both attended Mississippi State. Perhaps the biggest difference was Smith came off the board in the second round.

Smith went on to tally 24.5 sacks over four seasons in Washington before going to Green Bay.

It should go without saying, but the Redskins expect to get much more out of Sweat, a guy they traded back up into the first round to steal.
