Monterrey's Nicolas Sanchez sends Liverpool upset warning ahead of Club World Cup clash

Nicolas Sanchez insists Monterrey can cause a major upset against Liverpool.

The Mexican giants are big underdogs compared to Liverpool but Argentina defender Sanchez says victory will be the highlight of their careers.

Veteran Sanchez, 33, said: “It's a football match. We will enjoy the match and we aim to win hopefully.

“We will enter the pitch to win, we are not here just to participate, and we have exhibited over the last weeks – especially in Mexican league and qualification round – we have played very good matches and tomorrow we will do our best to represent our city and country in the best way possible.

“I never dreamed of playing in a tournament of this standard at my age. I am in the twilight of my career at 33 but I've learned to enjoy playing football throughout my professional career and I feel I still have more to give to my club.”

Monterrey boss Antonio Mohamed added: “We have a big ambition to play against Liverpool and we came to compete strongly at this mega-tournament.

“We knew this will be a tough match but we came to compete and play against one of the top teams in the world.

“Jurgen Klopp is one of the best managers and Liverpool is maybe the best team in the world right now. The most important thing is to not commit mistake and minimise mistakes as much as possible.

"We have made a huge effort to reach this stage and have come to compete irrespective of which team or manager we are facing.

"We came here to play and win the match with our weapons.

"We didn't come to participate in this tournament and let Liverpool win against us. Nothing is impossible in football."
