Montel Williams accused fellow tabloid talk show host Tucker Carlson of being “oddly obsessed” with him after the Fox News star talked about Williams’ having dated Vice President Kamala Harris roughly two decades ago — again.
“So, apparently Tucker Carlson said something about me last night… Re-upping the below,” the “Military Makeover” host and military veteran tweeted Tuesday.
He was referring to an incident earlier this year where the unhinged pundit spoke of Williams’ relationship with Harris, which Carlson revisited Monday night.
Williams followed up on his relationship with Carlson in an interview with Mediaite, where he said he didn’t know why the Fox News conspiracy pusher is interested in his personal life.
“It’s weird,” Williams said. “He’s been oddly obsessed with me… for years.”
Carlson invited Williams to come on his show and talk more about the time he spent with Harris, but there’s more than one reason that likely won’t happen.
“(I’m) not sure they allow people who look like me in either of the two very white enclaves he does the show from,” Williams said.
Carlson, who has been credibly and frequently accused of promoting white supremacy, tapes in Fox News studios in Washington, D.C., and New York City.
In his tweet, Williams claimed that last time he was in a room with Carlson, the cable news provocateur “sat nervously” and looked around without speaking. According to Mediaite, that encounter occurred at the 2016 GOP convention in Cleveland.
“Wasn’t awkward for me,” Williams said. “Clearly was for him.”
According to Williams, who spent more than two decades serving in the Marines and the Navy, he didn’t recognize Carlson at the time.
“Keep in mind he had said all kinds of loony toons things about me prior to that, and he just didn’t seem to have the same pugnaciousness he projects on TV in real life,” Williams said.
While Carlson has a long history with cable news, his highly watched program “Tucker Carlson Tonight” launched in November 2016.
Williams accused Tucker of being “All bark, no bite” and called him a “tortured soul.”
Williams, 65, also implied Carlson was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
“I got where I am without being an heir to a fish sticks fortune,” he said. “Would Tucker be where he is if his dad hadn’t married a fish sticks heiress?”
Fact checking site Snopes.com notes Patricia Swanson married Carlson’s father when the future Fox host was 10. Her family sold their frozen dinner empire to Campbell’s well before Carlson was born. Swanson’s worth is unclear.
In his tweet, Williams also took a passive-aggressive swipe at the producer of “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
“Disappointed in you Justin Wells,” he wrote. “Hope one day you see in yourself what I have always seen in you.”
Williams addressed his romance with Harris, for whom he has “great respect,” in a 2019 tweet.
“Kamala Harris and I briefly dated about 20 years ago when we were both single,” he wrote. “So what?”
On his Monday night program, Carlson derided Harris for “not from this country in that sense” because the California native spent her teenage years in Canada. He went on to speak about men Harris dated before she married Doug Emhoff in 2014. One of those men was Willie Brown, who was the mayor of San Francisco.
Carlson said he “would love to talk to Montel Williams about his torrid relationship” with Harris and added, “He’s always welcome on this show.”
