'Monster pumpkins' that take 130 days to grow to go on sale at Asda this Halloween

Giant pumpkins are soon set to go on sale at Asda for people who want to make their Halloween extra large this year.

According to the supermarket chain, their 'monster pumpkins' are up to 15 inches wide - twice the size of regular specimens.

And they take about 130 days to grow, compared to the 90 days most pumpkins are grown for.

The huge pumpkins will go on sale nationwide on Tuesday (October 15) for £5, so you'll have plenty of time to grab a couple before Halloween.

The monster pumpkins are grown in Lincolnshire from May onwards before being harvested and transported to the selected Asda stores around the UK.

And to ensure the best quality pumpkins for carving, Asda works closely with its growers to monitor the conditions and to harvest at the optimum time.

Hannah Carey, Asda’s pumpkin buyer, said: "In recent years, we’ve seen a trend and demand from our customers for products that are even bigger and more impressive to adorn homes with this year.

"We’ve worked closely with our growers to ensure quality carving pumpkins for all those celebrating Halloween.

"These pumpkins reach between 32-40cm in diameter – so they’ll make a big statement for those who want to go all-out for their Halloween decorations."

If a £5 monster pumpkin seems a bit too big for your requirements, Asda will also be selling its extra-large pumpkins for £3, large ones for £1.50 and regular ones for £1.
