LUCKNOW: A day after making a resounding entry with record rainfall, monsoon currents turned weaker on Friday, resulting in subdued rainfall activity.
It drizzled from midnight till morning with a total 8mm rainfall, but the day was partly cloudy. As a result, mercury levels increased in comparison to Thursday and turned the weather hot and sultry.
The maximum temperature was 35.6 degrees Celsius, 0.2 degrees below normal, and minimum temperature was 26 degrees Celsius, 0.7 below normal.
However, relative humidity was high and oscillated between 62-95%.
State Met director JP Gupta said that the trough - an elongated low pressure area - passing from over south UP has weakened.
This trough was responsible for rapid advancement of monsoon and widespread rains on Thursday, he added.
"We expect partly cloudy skies till July 4 with one or two spells of rain. New systems are developing which will cause widespread moderate to heavy rains again on July 5," he predicted.
