Monklands residents asked to donate presents for soldiers abroad at Christmas

Monklands residents are being asked to donate “morale boxes” to be distributed to military personnel who will be away from home over Christmas.

Donations of wrapped presents, individual Christmas cakes or puddings and small selection packets can be handed in at Captain Dugwash on Stirling Street in Airdrie and the Co-operative Funeralcare branches in both Airdrie and Coatbridge; bulk uplifts of parcels can also be made from schools and groups.

Support Our Soldiers regional co-ordinator Lynn O’Brien said: “Many of our troops will not be home over the festive season, so we want to make Christmas Day special by sending out our special Christmas cheer box, full of a taste of home and a present to open.

“The feedback from the troops who receive our boxes is always positive and they are amazed that a complete stranger takes the time to think of them.”
