Monklands pupils mark clean air day

Pupils at two Monklands primaries are displaying an environmental message outside their schools after taking part in a creative competition to mark national clean air day.

Youngsters at Chapelhall Primary and St Timothy’s in Coatbridge designed banners promoting the anti-pollution message; and their entries are now being produced by North Lanarkshire Council, with the pupils also receiving gift vouchers in honour of their efforts.

Clean air day promotes learning about how to take practical steps to reduce air pollution; while the local authority is also running a campaign entitled Choose Clean Air to highlight the issue.

It currently has pledges in place to improve air quality, including at designated management areas including Chapelhall and Coatbridge.

The new campaign aims to “encourage residents to take actions in their everyday lives to help reduce air pollution, such as reducing energy use at home, and the use of cars, especially for short journeys”.
