A monkey with an arrow penetrating its head was found in a housing material factory in Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, on Friday afternoon. City officials and others captured it alive, but due to its debilitated condition the animal had to be put down by the prefectural government based on the decision of veterinarians.
According to the Shiga prefectural police's Hikone Station, the 38-centimeter-long monkey was found with a 35-centimeter-long arrow through its head from the left ear to the right ear. A male employee of the factory found the monkey in a warehouse and reported it to the city government.
There are mountains around the factory and it is believed that the animal came down from the mountains and became lost on the premises of the factory. The police are investigating the case as a suspected violation of the Wildlife Protection and Hunting Law, assuming someone shot the arrow on purpose.
"Monkeys often appear in this area, but I can't forgive such an act," said the male employee who found the monkey.
