Israeli jets struck late on Thursday a military base in central Syria that houses Lebanon's “Hezbollah” group alongside other factions allied with the regime in Damascus, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Friday.
It is not clear if there are any casualties in the strikes on the Dabaa air base in central Homs province.
Syria's regime media reported late Thursday that a military base in central Syria came under attack from "enemy" fire. It said Syrian air defenses responded.
The base is north of the town of al-Qusayr that “Hezbollah” captured in 2013 from rebels.
"Six missiles were fired at the Dabaa military airport and surrounding area in the western sector of Homs province, targeting Lebanese ‘Hezbollah’ weapons warehouses," Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Observatory, told AFP on Thursday.
"The missiles would have been fired by Israel," he confirmed.
A source close to the Lebanese-Syrian border told AFP that planes had flown over Lebanese airspace. Israeli jets often uses Lebanese airspace to conduct raids in Syria.
“Hezbollah” and Iran's role in Syria has alarmed Israel and the United States, which have threatened action.
Tensions are high in Syria after several Israeli bombing raids in recent weeks on regime positions, as well as on military installations reportedly used by Iran.
