Moniaive woman calls on Dumfries and Galloway Council to remove tree blocking park access

A Moniaive woman is calling on the council to remove a fallen tree which is blocking access to a park at the bottom of her garden.

The tree has been lying since November when the region was battered by high winds during Storm Arwen.

It landed against the gate of Su Palmer-Jones’ home preventing her from accessing the park on her daily walks.

But the local authority is yet to respond to her complaints.

The 77-year-old said: “My neighbour told me about it after the high winds and said a tree has fallen at the bottom of my garden.

“I have a gate at the bottom of my garden which leads on to the park.

“I tried to get out and check it but I couldn’t so I went into the park and came around to my garden and I saw this tree was blocking my back gate.

“It’s been there ever since. It’s really annoying. I walk every day and I used to go through the gate and into the park to keep fit.

“On November 27 I contacted the council and I’ve not received a response.

“It’s disappointing because I thought they’d have sent someone to take a look. My neighbour also contacted them. The tree also landed on my shed and has knocked it a little bit.

“It’s very frustrating.”
