MoneySavingExpert warning to homeowners to stop throwing out household waste

MoneySavingExpert is warning homeowners to stop throwing out their household waste.

According to the finance guru, there could be some serious cash in your rubbish.

One of the most popular items people want to buy second hand is empty perfume bottles.

MoneySavingExpert said they have seen some empty perfume bottles selling for £37 each.

However, they said the typical price is between £2 to £5 - which can add up if you have several to spare.

Other household items you might consider throwing away that are worth keeping include jam jars, football match programmes, shirt buttons and newspaper supplements.

One person told MoneySavingExpert: "I got £10 on eBay for a Guardian Guide mag with The Killers on the front. Rescued it from the work recycling bin."

A second said: "I’ve sold empty perfume and aftershave bottles for £5-£8 each on eBay.

"Somebody actually messaged asking if they could just buy the top of one of the bottles."

And one eBay seller made over £2,500 selling empty crisp bags from the 1980s.

According to MoneySavingExpert, the best places to sell your waste are eBay, Gumtree, Preloved, Facebook groups and Facebook Marketplace.
