We've picked our top 10 which could help save you a fortune and keep you on the right side of the law.

Ask for the menú del día

Holidaymakers know one of the most expensive parts of a holiday is eating out.

So if lunch isn't included in your package, you'll want to ask for the menu del dia at a restaurant.

This will see you bag a three-course meal and drink, for less than €15.

Free playgrounds on San Pedro Boulevard

If you're taking young children on holiday, you'll want to know about these playgrounds.

Spanish playgrounds are free, clean and pretty much everywhere.

The San Pedro Boulevard near Marbella is a 55,000 square-metre complex which includes a wavy bridge, an amphitheatre, skate rink, zip line and areas for cycling.

If you're asked, ALWAYS pay in euros

At cash machines and in shops, you'll often be asked if you want to pay in euros or pounds.

If you opt to pay in pounds, you'll be charged using the bank's own rate, which is usually worse compared with Visa/Mastercard's wholesale rate.

Beware of local laws

There are a lot of bylaws that could catch tourists out.

MoneySavingExpert reports that in Torrox, at the eastern end of the Costa del Sol, tourists who left out towels to reserve the best spot on a busy beach risked having their towels confiscated by the beach patrol and paying a £21 'release' fee.

You will also be fined for drinking alcohol in the streets in Malaga.

Send the bread away

Always send the bread basket away if you don't want to pay for it.

Often when you sit down to eat out, a basket of bread will arrive even before your drinks do.

But many tourists are caught out as some restaurants expect you to pay for it.

Unlike the UK, tipping isn't expected in Spain, but can be in the more touristy areas.

In authentic Spanish restaurants, they will not expect a tip.

However, it is not uncommon to round up your meal to the nearest euro.

You may pay a premium to eat your dinner or lunch in the sun

Locals will often eat inside or drink at the bar, whereas tourists are likely to be outside soaking up the sun.

However if you want to eat outside, some restaurants may charge a terrace surcharge - so it's best to join the locals.

Travel from the airport for less than €3

It's worth looking at whether you can get to your destination by public transport.

Malaga Airport to Fuengirola is each way is €2.70 on the train - but by taxi it is approximately €33.

Consider buying your own sun-loungers

It may sound like an odd thing to buy, but it could pay-off in the long run.

The standard rate to rent is €5 per day, or €10 for two and a parasol.

But a local supermarket may have a good deal.

Taxis are usually on a meter

Taxis on the Costa Del Sol are often metered, if not the fares will be set by the local town hall.

But it's worth agreeing on a price before you ride as fares can vary throughout the day.
