MoneySavingExpert Martin Lewis shares how shoppers can tell if they're really getting a bargain

We all love finding a good bargain, spotting yellow stickers from miles away and keeping up to date on the latest sales.

But how do you know if you’re really getting a good bargain?

Despite supermarkets listing items as “on offer”, this doesn’t always mean it’s the cheapest you’ll find the item, so Money Saving Expert ’s Martin Lewis has shared the easy way to find out the truth.

Using supermarket comparison site Mysupermarket, shoppers can compare products’ price histories to see if a store’s ‘was’ price is realistic - or if the price has dropped by much.

All you need to do is sign up to Mysupermarket for free and search an item - on its page you’ll see its “price today” and how it compares to the average price, including if there are any sales.

You can even set up price alerts on your favourite items by searching a product, click ‘add price alert’ and Mysupermarket fires off an email to you as soon as the price drops in one or more stores.
