MoneySavingExpert Martin Lewis reveals who you should vote for in general election

Martin Lewis has issued an important message to the UK public about who to vote for in this year's general election.

The country will head to the polling stations on Thursday, December 12 to elect their local MP.

have been consistently pointing towards a majority for Boris Johnson and the Conservatives.

But before voting commences, Martin says the British public should really consider which party will benefit them the most.

He says it's important for you to factor in Brexit, your local candidates, party policies and their leaders.

The MoneySavingExpert founder won't reveal who he will vote for, but wants to ensure your vote reflects your view.

Which parties' policies represent you?

Martin suggests taking a few quizzes to find out who matches your views.

He recommends Who should you vote for? , where you answer just a few questions and it maps your views to the closest major party.

Vote for Policies is another option, which basis your vote on your favourite manifesto.

Research your local candidates

Martin recommends doing some digging on your local candidates.

To find your candidates, enter your postcode at  Who can I vote for? , where you may find info on them.

You can also find your most recent former MP's (none of them are MPs now) voting record at  TheyWorkForYou  or contact most of them via  Tweet your Candidate .

What are the parties promising to do?

Last week, MoneySavingExpert held a leaders debate, where all the major party leaders, apart from Nigel Farage, answered a number of important questions.

This included what they promise to do on housing, income, mortgage prisoners, money & mental health, rail fares and social care.

You can take a look at what they said here .

Labour said it will "pull the NHS back from the brink" (PA)

Consider voting tactically

If you're in a constituency where your chosen party has very little chance, Martin recommends voting tactically.

This can stop your most-disliked party winning.

There are a number of tools online, but Martin warns that many have an agenda so may not be impartial.

Not going to vote? Do this instead

The right for all to vote has been a hard battle, so if you're planning on not voting, Martin says at least go to the polling booth and spoil your ballot to register a vote of protest.

He says this is far better than not voting at all.
