Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis warns elderly being targeted by coronavirus scammers

Martin Lewis issued a passionate talk as he warned scammers are targeting the elderly during the coronavirus pandemic.

Offering advice about finances in the wake of the global outbreak on his show, The Martin Lewis Money Show last night, the Money Saving Expert founder slammed scammers exploiting vulnerable people during the outbreak.

The scam sees crooks calling elderly and vulnerable people and telling them their banks have been affected by the coronavirus, and they must transfer their money to a separate bank account immediately.

The impassioned finance guru branded the scammers “disgusting” and said he wished he could use the “language” he really wanted to.

Martin advised the public to always check any finance news “at the source”, and said if you are worried your bank has been affected, you must contact them directly.

He urged people to show “forbearance” during the coronavirus pandemic.

He added that some companies may be “struggling” and if asked to take vouchers instead of getting a refund, “it’s worth considering” as it “could protect staff from losing their jobs”.

The finance expert said: “If we all show each other forbearance right now when we can, we will all come out in the best state we can.”

Finishing the show, Martin said: “Be kind to each other, go through all your finances, all your money” and added: “we need to look after each other and most importantly, we need to look after our health.”
