Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis' warning to anyone buying Valentine's Day gifts

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has shared a warning to anyone buying gifts this Valentine's Day.

Speaking out on his ITV programme The Martin Lewis Money Show last week, the financial guru warned against spending cash on gifts this February 14.

The most romantic day of the year arrives this weekend, with couples expected to celebrate from home as lockdown continues.

Martin was keen to point out that there’s “no need to spend for Valentine’s Day” and warned viewers not to “fall to that commercial peer pressure”, reports BirminghamLive.

He said: "If you are spending, a lot of things are actually cheaper to do this week rather than next week.

"For example, couriered roses will cost you £25 at Marks and Spencer and similar prices elsewhere. You might not be able to get them next week so a little bit of planning helps."

Sharing another piece of advice, Martin added: "We can't always see people these days so if you want to send them a card, the Card Factory's personalised photocards start at £1.79 including delivery.

“That's not bad when you consider the price of a stamp, and you can put your own photo on that."

The Martin Lewis Money Show airs each Thursday at 8.30pm with episodes available on the ITV Hub, a streaming platform provided by the broadcaster.
