Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis reveals some big changes to car finance payments

It could be good news for drivers who have bought a car on finance.

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis revealed that if you have a car loan, PCP, leasing or HP deal there will be a three month payment holiday on requests.

The Liverpool Echo reports he gave the update on his programme The Martin Lewis Money Show.

Whilst this regulation has yet to become law, Martin expects the Government to announce it on Friday.

This will then be put in place later next week.

For the time being, Martin advises speaking to your car finance company as they may be able to start the payment holiday now.

But only do this if there's no other option, as interest still racks up.

It's worth knowing they can't repossess cars for non-payment.

Car finance is often secured on the car, so usually if you can't repay, lenders can repossess it. They can't do this for the next three months if you're struggling due to coronavirus.
