Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis reveals how you can save 60% on Ryanair seat reservations and cabin bags

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has revealed a handy way to save up to 60 per cent on seat reservations and cabin bags.

Appearing on today's episode of This Morning, the financial guru, 47, spoke about a new trick passengers can use to save money when booking flights with Ryanair.

It's no secret that the budget airline regularly offers inexpensive flights, but when adding on extras, such as seat reservations and luggage, the cost can start to rocket.

With the airline's 'Regular' fare, customers have the chance to pay around £20.85 for cabin bags, seat reservations and priority boarding per person per flight.

But now Martin Lewis has uncovered that choosing the 'Value' fare first and then adding on extras (seat reservations, cabin bags and priority booking) could actually work out cheaper.

Speaking alongside the daytime TV presenters Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, during his segment the 47-year-old urged viewers "not to buy the ticket it wants you to".

He added: "Ryanair has three levels of ticket and the one it pushes the most is its 'Regular' fare. Now with this you pay around £21 per person roughly for priority boarding, one extra cabin bag and a seat reservation.

Both of the fare options provide customers not only with the option to choose their own seat, within rows 18-33, but also to board in front of others and to bring two cabin bags, including wheelie bag weighing up to 10kg.

However, the Money Saving Expert and his team discovered that you could get up to 60 per cent off.

He continued: "In tests we've done, 16 out of 20 times you would be better off to get its 'Value' fare - its cheapest fare - and then add on these extras yourself.

"In one case it was over 60 per cent cheaper."

Martin also said that the trick works best if you’re travelling with kids.

He added: "This is especially true if you are travelling with under-12s, because then they get a free seat reservation if an adult with them has a seat reservation.

"So when booking with Ryanair, start with the Value fare then add on - that's usually the best way."
