Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis on how to double Tesco Clubcard points for a limited time only

When it comes to supermarket loyalty schemes one of the most well known is Tesco's Clubcard.

The Clubcard scheme lets customers accumulate points which can later be turned into money to spend and now for a limited time only shoppers can get double points.

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has revealed shoppers are able to get double points on shopping if they scan their Clubcards at the checkouts via the Clubcard app.

The offer is only running until until Sunday, March 1 so you have just over a week to make the most of it.

He also warned customers that they will only get double points by using the app - the offer won't work if a physical Clubcard is used or if shoppers scan their cards using Apple Pay or Android Pay.

The offer excludes fuel, tobacco products, stamps, saving stamps, items from the cafe, lottery products, prescription medicines, infant formula, gift cards, travel money and e-top-ups.

The launch of the offer comes after Tesco issued a warning to shoppers encouraging them to spend their Clubcard vouchers before they expire.

In Liverpool, it is thought there is around £104,000 worth of vouchers to be claimed.

That's because vouchers for the reward scheme, which lets you earn points for your shopping, are only generally valid for two years.

The good news is that there is a way to check if any of the ones set to expire are yours - as well as a way to refresh them if you don't think you'll spend them in time.

Tesco chief customer officer Alessandra Bellini said: "Our customers lead busy lives and may forget about the points and vouchers that they've built up over time.

"With a large number set to expire at the end of the month, we are encouraging people to check the Clubcard app to see if any of these unused vouchers are theirs."
