Patrick Quirke is a money-obsessed killer who was hell-bent on getting hold of Mary Lowry’s €1million farm, the Irish Mirror can reveal.
Sources said detectives discovered early on in the investigation the land was a potential cash cow. And it was greed that led Quirke to the point where killing his love rival seemed the only way to get control of the plot.
A source said: “The investigation was a hugely complicated process.
“One aspect, identified early, was this killing was money-driven. Quirke believed Mary Lowry’s land was worth in excess of €4million.
“He was worried Bobby would get with Mary and he would inherit the land. Quirke wanted to expand his farm and grab more money.”

Sources claim investigators were well aware the suspect had a temper.
One added: “He sees himself as infamous and notorious and feeds off the view that he could kill.
“He also has a reputation for boasting about his farming ability and his talent.
“The idea this was merely because he wanted to get back with Mary is too simplistic. He wanted to grab her land.
“The use of the slurry tank to dispose of the body destroyed a lot of the evidence. But gardai wanted to bring this home for the Ryan family.
“There’ll be an examination of how the investigation was completed but it has been a successful probe.”
