Money blogger says Primark and Boots receipts can reduce your mobile phone bill

A money blogger has explained three ways to slash your phone bill - and it could save you hundreds of pounds.

Mobile phone contracts can be expensive, particularly if you want the most up-to-date handsets, so it pays to shop around for the best deals.

The cheapest way to have a mobile is usually by owning your handset outright, which means you aren’t paying a monthly price for your handset and can search for SIM-only deals.

But if you can’t afford to pay for a handset upfront, or you’re tied into a contract, there are still ways to save money.

Kia Commodore, who runs the Pennies to Pounds blog on Instagram and TikTok.

She said: “Do you want to pay less on your monthly or SIM-only phone contracts?

“84% of people in the UK have monthly or SIM-only contracts so it’s only right that I show you the best places to get deals on your contract.”

Compare prices

If you’re out of contract, use a comparison website to search for the cheapest phone deals.

Remember to take into account how many minutes, texts and data you need to avoid paying extra for expensive bundles.

Or if your contract is coming to an end soon, and you don’t want to change your phone, you can try haggling for a better deal with your existing provider.

To do this, search around for the best price first and then ask your current provider if they can match it.

Kia recommended Mobiles.co.uk but other websites that also compare prices include Uswitch.com and MoneySupermarket.com.

She said: “I have not paid full price for a contract in five years.

“This place shows you the best deals for handset contracts or to get SIM-only contracts.”

Use cashback sites

Kia says she was able to get £80 for free by taking out a phone contract through a cashback website.

Cashback websites do exactly as the name suggests - you get money back when making a qualifying purchase, meaning you’re essentially getting free cash if you were going to buy that particular product anyway.

Keep an eye on cashback sites like Topcashback or Quidco, as they'll often have deals for mobile contracts.

Kia said: “If you’re not already using cashback sites, what are you doing with your life?

“They offer cashback deals which means you get a range of cash back whenever you take out a contract with certain providers.

“I took out a SIM-only deal using a cashback site and I got a whopping £80 back.”

Check out Airtime Rewards

Airtime Rewards is another cashback app that is specifically linked to your mobile phone provider.

To use it, you need to link up your bank card and Airtime Rewards will then monitor your spending and convert this into money off your phone bill for qualifying purchases.

Retailers it is partnered with include Primark, Argos and Boots, while the phone providers that work with Airtime Rewards are O2, EE, GiffGaff, Three and Vodafone.

Kia said: “Airtime Rewards is a cashback app that allows you to get money off your phone contract.

“Connect all your cards up, spend at your favourite retailers and get money back that’ll take money off your phone contract.”
