May 31--Jason Hammel left after two innings Monday due to cramping in his right hamstring, but he and relievers Travis Wood, Justin Grimm, Pedro Strop and Hector Rondon combined to retire the final 25 batters to lead the Cubs to a 2-0 victory over the Dodgers before 41,470 fans at Wrigley Field.
At the plate
With Dexter Fowler nursing a sore right heel, Ben Zobrist took over in the leadoff spot and started a two-run rally in the fifth with a single and eventually scored on an infield hit by Jason Heyward. Anthony Rizzo followed later with an RBI double.
On the mound
Wood, a 2013 National League All-Star who was in the Cubs' rotation as recently as last May, has retired all 12 batters faced. He could be an option to start Saturday if Hammel isn't ready.
In the field
Without Fowler, Jason Heyward shifted to center field and Zobrist to right field. The Dodgers got their only hit when the wind blew a pop by Justin Turner away from a diving Heyward in shallow right center.
Key number
16 -- Consecutive games Zobrist has hit safely in.
