Extreme Cake Makers
5.30pm, Channel 4
From the new home of Bake Off comes another cake-focused blowout, screening daily at a time that will leave you craving buttercream for dinner. Each episode cuts between three fondant savants applying their ingenuity to ambitious commissions, but the result feels crammed. Half an hour just isn’t long enough to appreciate the effort that goes into creating a 7ft-long Wallace and Gromit-themed showstopper. Graeme Virtue
Britain’s Biggest Hoarders
8pm, Channel 4
Ignoring the irony of Channel 4 adding to an already bulky collection of programmes on hoarders, this explores the psychology behind desires to cling to clutter, and the impact on spouses expected to fit alongside the flotsam. Here we meet Sue, whose home is so stuffed with dolls her grandchildren can’t visit safely, and electronics enthusiast Scott, who has more vacuum cleaners than square feet of unoccupied carpet. Mark Gibbings-Jones
Little Boy Blue
9pm, ITV
Philomena writer Jeff Pope’s dramatisation of the murder of 11-year-old Rhys Jones in Liverpool in 2007 continues. As family and friends attend Rhys’s funeral, the police, led by Stephen Graham’s Det Supt Dave Kelly, raid the home of Kevin Moody, recovering the gun that was used to kill Rhys. Moody is facing a choice between being labelled a grass or likely going to prison but the results of forensic tests on the weapon suddenly throw the case into turmoil. Ben Arnold
The Island with Bear Grylls
9pm, Channel 4
There’s a Lord of the Flies phase in every series of this daft but entertaining reality show. And tonight our castaways hit the wall with explosive results. The two groups have abandoned the brutal but somehow currently appropriate young-versus-old arrangement. But unity isn’t bringing strength as some wastefully used oil is the catalyst for ignition. Time to break out the face paint, sharpen the sticks and build an extra big bonfire? Phil Harrison
Amsterdam: An Art Lover’s Guide
9pm, BBC4
In this frisky but informative series, art historians Dr Janina Ramirez and Alastair Sooke take us on a series of city breaks, examining the cultural origins of three major cities. They begin in Amsterdam, showing how the city balanced conservative commercialism and a liberal, aesthetic outlook, with art and architecture duly thriving. We learn about Jan Steen, the Dutch Hogarth, and the world’s oldest Jewish library. David Stubbs
Murdoch Mysteries
9pm, Alibi
The 10th season of the Canadian crime drama concludes with William Murdoch in deep trouble when he goes to the aid of “a dancehall girl and a socialist’s wife”. This doesn’t impress powerful vested interests in the city, led by corrupt developer Robert Graham, and the detective is framed for murder. Can Murdoch prove his innocence? As an episode told largely in flashback plays out, it’s soon apparent that there will be plenty of material for another series. Jonathan Wright
Silicon Valley
10pm, Sky Atlantic
As the fourth run of the nerdy-but-nice (and rather watchable) tech sitcom continues, tensions in the Pied Piper house are running high. Richard’s suggestions for helping Dinesh seal a potentially catastrophic security loophole in his chat app fall on deaf ears, leaving the latter’s company in serious peril and putting Jared in an awkward position. Elsewhere, Erlich reckons Jian-Yang is working on a profitable virtual reality project, and makes a play for involvement. Hannah J Davies

Margin Call (JC Chandor, 2011) 11pm, BBC2
JC Chandor’s confident, compelling fiscal drama follows a Manhattan investment bank through a dark night of what passes for its soul in the midst of the 2008 economic crisis. Among the victims of the latest round of brutal sackings is analyst Stanley Tucci, who bequeaths a timebomb of a report pointing to the firm’s imminent collapse. Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany and Jeremy Irons are among the bigwigs scurrying to save themselves. Truly excellent. Paul Howlett
