Secrets Of The Earth
2pm, Eden

Wet, wet, wet. This new series, imported from the US’s Weather Channel, kicks off with a splashy double bill, employing satellite imagery, computer simulation and talking heads to guide viewers through the mysteries of rain and waves. Though delivered in a rather dramatic register – hail is “one of nature’s most devastating bombardments” – interesting facts emerge, including the physics of raindrops and an explanation of the geological “ring of fire” that makes Japan so vulnerable to tsunamis. Graeme Virtue

Antibiotic Apocalypse – Panorama
8.30pm, BBC1

With the NHS facing a fraught future, here’s a disconcerting premise for Britons without private healthcare. Antibiotic-resistant superbugs are on the rise, leaving healthcare firms struggling to supply life-saving solutions. Fergus Walsh investigates the steps they are taking, and visits India to see how antibiotics ordinarily only available on prescription are being sold openly to those willing to pay inflated prices. He also meets NHS patients dependent on such treatment. Mark Jones

Benefits Street
9pm, Channel 4

Whether you think that it’s shameless poverty porn or giving a voice to underprivileged Brits, Benefits Street does indeed chart eye-opening events. This week in Stockton-on-Tees, drug dealer Maxwell – who has been imprisoned since filming ended – is assaulted by his girlfriend. Meanwhile, the younger contingent clash with an elderly resident who thinks that the area has changed for the worse. Despite lots about “community spirit”, the programme’s voyeuristic nature may still leave viewers uncomfortable. Hannah J Davies

Scammers
9pm, ITV

It’s now estimated that cybercrime costs the UK economy around £27bn every year – and that figure is rising. Jamie Theakston investigates how the government is ploughing millions into special units that hope to stem the flow of crime committed online. He also meets those who have fallen victim to scams, including one woman who lost a £180,000 while looking for romance and the tragic case of a teen who took his life after being tricked by a scammer pretending to be the police. Ben Arnold

Gotham
9pm, Channel 5

Dark and slick as ever, there’s trouble from the start in Gotham as Barbara is being offered quiche for breakfast after a one-night stand. But the perpetrator of eggy goods is none other than serial killer The Ogre (Milo Ventimiglia, straddling the sinister/sexy divide) who offers her a deadly deal to spare her life. Back at Wayne Enterprises, Bruce has the key to Bunderslaw’s office and uses it to uncover some secrets about the company. Falcone, meanwhile, gets the gift of a head in a box and a gang war is declared. Hannah Verdier

The Night Bus
10pm, Channel 4

Last week’s opening episode of Channel 4’s latest camera-rigged show focused on romantic encounters taking place on London’s N29, as it travelled between the north London suburbs and Trafalgar Square. This second edition presents an anthology of bus conversations in which fleeting companionship is the common goal. Despite what the overfamiliar narration would have you believe, this journey hasn’t unearthed more of the national treasures the obs-doc genre relies on – just some amazingly tedious exchanges. Rachel Aroesti

Silicon Valley
10.35pm, Sky Atlantic

“Permission to be honest? I like the fact you guys are so … weird.” And who doesn’t? Much like Parks And Rec, Silicon Valley goes beyond one-liners, arriving at a place where being warm and funny doesn’t feel like a cop-out. Tonight, Gavin Belson of Hooli meddles in Pied Piper affairs, leaving the team with an office-space problem. Richard takes on Jared as a roommate, and Gilfoyle builds his “male” servers (“I couldn’t remember your mom’s name Dark and slick Gotham, …”). Meanwhile, Big Head finds his management style called into question. John Robinson
